Bye Bye Dallas

Left Phoenix late afternoon on Friday and aimed to drive as far as we could before finding a place to sleep. On the way, we passed through Saguaro National Park and took pictures of large cacti (love) and raced a little roadrunner across the road.  So darling. Continued driving until about 3:00am (we did have a jump forward on time when we entered Texas, but it was still a long, late drive), then crashed in the car at Guadalupe Mountains National Park. I didn’t know that Texas had two National Parks; I only knew about Big Bend. How exciting to accidentally find our way to another! 

After watching the sun rise, we stopped at Carlsbad National Park to tour the caverns. Striking. Loved the effects that millions of years of continually mixing rain water and hydrogen-sulfide rich water (had to google the exact term) had on the limestone. The structures, streams, ponds, etc. were artistic and gorgeous. The 50 degree weather was wonderful as well!

Continued our drive towards Dallas, with an overnight stop in San Angelo to love on some babies. After arriving in Dallas, it was time to get to work. I had to organize all of my stuff into piles: garage sale, donating, keeping in storage, or taking with me on my road trip. Uff-da. I’m amazed by how much stuff I accumulated over the years.

In between the organizing, I attended my soul sister’s wedding (and did an awesome MOH speech!) as well as my adorable, so sweet and happy, nephews’ baptism (happy 6 months, J2!) where I accepted my role as Godmother.  

The garage sale was a decent success, but I must spread some love for Facebook Marketplace and 5Miles. Sold the bigger items on these, and it was so easy and successful. Advice: to make your parents happy (or perhaps because your motto is “safety first” or "stay out of the forest"), you can Google “safe zones” in your area and complete the exchange at a police station that provides a lit area with 24/7 surveillance.  

I donated a full car load of clothes, decorations, kitchen stuff, etc., threw away quite a bit, then rented a 5’x10’ storage unit and Tetrised the remaining items to utilize every inch (which made me wonder why I'm still keeping so much). Had lunch and dinner and ladies night with the ones I'll miss the most, then loaded my car, said goodbye to the roommates/ house and hit the road for Arkansas. 

Will visit Crater Diamonds State Park and Hot Springs NP. Let’s hope I find a diamond to help pay for the speeding ticket I earned this afternoon while driving on Hwy 30! Must. Slow. Down. And. Obey. All. Traffic. Laws. #boospeedingtickets

Now that all I have to do is travel, write, take pictures, and enjoy the day, the goal is to post every 3-4 days. Instagram will be updated more frequently: sfkadventures

All Roads Led To...Houston?!

One year ago today, I hopped on a plane to Phoenix, Arizona, to begin a life of travel. Big Bend National Park: A Stargazer’s Paradise

Living in Houston, I don’t often look up at the sky. Maybe if I realize it’s a full moon, I’ll find time to sit outside and enjoy the beauty. But the other days of the month? Stars don’t exist inside the 610 Loop of Houston. Which made our venture out to Big Bend even more spectacular. A perk to working for myself is that I’m able to schedule my days off whenever I want. So, when a nurse friend tells us she has 10 days off and wants to travel somewhere, we decided to go big. We narrowed down our destination to either northern Arkansas or Big Bend National Park. Then when vacations days were settled for the other 2 friends to take 6 days, we decided on Big Bend. You don’t happen to drive nearby or randomly decide to detour to Big Bend. The only reason you’ll  travel anywhere near the park is because you purposely decide to make the trek to west Texas.  It’s 9+ hours from Houston (not including stops for gas, food, or detours to Del Rio for scenic routes), or 200+ miles if you...

Christmas Letter 2018

Hello Beautiful, Amazing, Wonderful People!  As 2018 comes to a close, I’m so thankful to those who’ve supported me over the last year. 2018 was a huge transition year for me. I entered it uncertain what the year would bring, where I would travel, who I would meet, even where I would be sleeping. Twelve months later, I’ve moved back to the city of my teen years, started a business, and am filled with a sense of rightness and jubilation. Many, many thanks to those who let me crash at their place when my life was filled with uncertainty.
